History of SBC

Shenandoah Baptist Church, located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, has been a landmark in Verona, Virginia, and a bulwark of faith for Augusta County for over fifty years.

Started in the home of Pastor Everett McCulley in March of 1969, Shenandoah Baptist Church, the third church that Pastor McCulley planted in Virginia, took its first steps and grew. In November of the same year, while meeting in the Verona Union Building, the thirteen members organized and adopted a resolution to become a church.

On June 4th, 1971, land was purchased at the present location and the first building was built. After building a thriving bus and children’s ministry, more room was needed than the main building and out-building could provide, and, in the summer of 1978, a new building was commissioned to be built to house classrooms, a kitchen, a prophet’s chamber, and a social hall.

In 1989, the members of SBC voted to call Dale Meyerhoeffer to be pastor and he guided the church and served the Lord and the people of SBC for twelve years.

Pastor Donald Mallory was called to lead SBC in 2011 and faithfully served till his death in 2017.

In April of 2018, Shenandoah Baptist called Nathan Lipscomb to be their full-time pastor, and in August, he and his family moved up from Florida and began serving in earnest the members of SBC and the community.
